Meaningful Employment, Constructive Accomplishment
Every Able Body Works
Each and every person residing in Canada has the duty and obligation to be a law abiding, productive, peaceful citizen and a defender and protector of the person and rights of all other individuals residing in Canada.

The first duty of every Canadian citizen is ‘Abiding to Law’. This duty is a learned behavior brought about by upbringing, environment and necessity. Although there is very little society in general can do to ensure the proper raising of law abiding children, this is primarily a parental responsibility, there is much we can do to promote a law abiding environment and limit the necessity to break the law and assist in the law abiding and productive development of the nations' children.
Productivity, the ability of a person to earn a living and pay his or her proportion of support to our Nations welfare and security is directly relative to an individuals education and job related training. It is an individual's responsibility to take advantage of any and all education and training opportunities and resources and it is the obligation of society to provide all resources required for the education and training of all citizens. This should and must include parenting skills programs to best ensure each child's discipline and environment to learn.
The ability to earn a reasonable wage reduces the necessity of criminal activity for support in the basics to enjoyment of life and reduces the direct financial support from society required to live a proper standard of life.
It is the duty of every Canadian citizen to defend and remain prepared to defend the sovereignty of Canada and the property of Canada and the people of Canada, not only from outside aggression or incursion but also from natural occurrences such as fire, flood, earthquake, famine, pestilence, disease or any other threat to the safety and welfare of the population.

There needs be opportunities for employment for every able citizen. A National Guard, a quasi-military corp, could supplement those opportunities by providing temporary employment, purpose, discipline, on job training, and life skills. Since it be everyone's duty to be prepared to defend the nation, then every able citizen should find it his or her duty to serve a minimum time in preparing for that defense. There is no reason why this service to Canada cannot begin at age 15. For those who are attending school much of the mandatory service period could be served in a ‘Cadet’ wing. For those who drop out of school, their service begins full time.
For those who are unemployed and are taking advantage of the ‘Canadian Guaranteed Income Allowance’, there is a temporary service waiting for you doing volunteer work in your respective community.
I can already hear the objections; “Sounds like Fascism.”, Didn't Hitler do this?“, "We live in a free country.” “It will cost too much.”
What people need most in any country is vision, hope, and security. These instill national pride, and it is that sense of National Pride and Community Pride which is lacking for many Canadians, especially in our youth. When we go about our communities we only have to see the litter, the graffiti and vandalism, the lack of respect for one another, to realize for many that there is little or no pride. For many Canadians, any love they have is turned inwards; they have been given little encouragement that they can rely on the ‘Canadian System’. We have failed to offer them hope. Their only security is within themselves and their closest friends. Canada has a dwindling vision of who we are as a nation. Where is our Pride?
What is Canada's greatest accomplishment? Hockey? It's a great game, but even in hockey we are losing our dominance. Hockey is our ‘National Sport’, yet 3/4 of our families cannot afford to have their children play the game.
Every parent worth their salt raises his son or daughter with these words, “You either stay in school or find a job. You have to pay your way. Those are your choices. I'll give you all the help you need but, you can't just sit around home and do nothing, or run about with your rowdy friends getting into trouble.”
…and so it should be in society.
There is no free lunch!
That is what a Canadian National Guard can be. A transition between dependency and earning your way. Canada will give you all the help you need but, you can't just sit around home and do nothing.
My hope would be that most young people would opt to stay in school, live at home and become part time ‘Guardians’. There are many for whom a full time institution is a needed and welcome ‘safe house’. A service that offers them security, discipline, training, and purpose. An institution of hope. Some of what was missing while they were living at home due to any of many societal and family shortcomings and failures. They will still be encouraged to continue with their education and they will be given community service work, everything from litter cleanup, public campground preparation, public event setup, helping service clubs and volunteer organizations. The list could be endless of community services that need doing throughout Canada. The farming community in Canada is in desperate need of assistance.
They will also be trained to assist in disaster preparation, fire suppression, flood control, emergency supply delivery, basically a civil military prepared to help where help is needed. The main objective is use-full occupation of time, building character, breaking the mold of handouts for nothing.
Perhaps many will volunteer to enlist for a career in the Canadian Armed Forces.
The costs of maintaining a National Guard will actually be less than what Canadians are paying now when we consider the socio-economic costs of youths without guidance and direction.

My sincere hope is at the very least, parents have been encouraged to become more pro-active with their families, schools, and community.
