Canadian Concerns Over Product Quality
It is a disgrace to the consumer how quickly product quality is deteriorating. Never in history have there been as many recalls of product in Canada. Most recalls have been for fire hazards, mostly in switches and lights. The public hears mostly about toy defects, our children's safety is big in the news, and also food contamination. Perhaps it is time that quality of product should also be given a rating by our Canadian inspection agencies.
It is a complete insult to the Canadian public how retailers can stock their shelves with much of the junk product being distributed.

- Stainless that is so thin it rusts.
- Plating that wipes off when cleaned.
- Bearings in power tools that don't last a year.
- Toys that are broken before Christmas day is even over.
- Stitching that comes undone after the first wash.
- Plastic shelf clips in refrigerators that break.
- Plastic back splashes on ranges that scratch and warp.
- Rubberized dish trays in dishwashers that deteriorate in 6 months.
- Light plastic tap handles on faucets that break after several uses.

- Paying extra for a warranty that is probably useless anyway.
The list could go on and on ---
But hold on, where is the public outcry? Why aren't people demanding better quality? Is purchasing strictly a matter of price?

If you take the product back to the store, most just say, “It's not our responsibility, thats the way they make them.” Shouldn't there be some responsibility on behalf of the retailers to be responsible for the products they sell?
You sell it – You fix it or replace it.
Most often shipping the defective product back to the factory or distributor is not worth the cost, time and inconvenience. Why aren't the big name retailers telling the distributors of poor quality products, “Sorry, we can't put our name behind your brand.”
If you have a concern about any product sold in Canada, Please let us know. Tell of your experience with products you have used. Pass on your recommendations, warn others of poor quality. Just please be honest.

Even Brand Names are Lower Quality
I have always been a Craftsman or DeWalt fan since the early 70s when I first renoed a house.
About 8 years ago I purchased a DeWalt cordless drill from Home Depot. I noticed that it was made in Mexico. It lasted about 5, 5 1/2 years, getting a bit tired. For paying about $130, not too bad.
I decided to replace it so I bought a new Dewalt cordless from Home Depot for about $145. This time I noticed it was made in China. It lasted 17 months and it was completely shot. Bushings, motor, batteries, all done. Warranty over, no replacement.
Will I buy another DeWalt? Never.
So where does one turn? Are all tools the same now? Do you buy the cheapest on the market knowing it will only last a year anyway?
